Lonewolf’s ultimate hybrid creation/pvp guide!

Hello my name is Lonewolf, I’ve been playing this game for almost 3 years now, and been playing a hybrid as my only PvP character for nearly 9 months. I’ve noticed that many people are still confused, or have no idea how hybrid pvp works, or even how to make one. So I thought id write up a guide, and help people to understand how this amazing class works.

1.0 General background and the dawn of hybrids.

The hybrid class as we know them today were perfected by BRB, and popularized in their video “Mortal Online [BRB] 3-man raid on GK”. Before hybrids were popular there were only a handful of them on the server, and none really stood out enough for big pvp guilds to largely incorporate them. Pvp was mainly fought in groups consisting of 90% warriors, and 10% mages. I call this group composition “Dark age fighting” because the composition is largely dead and completely absent in small scale pvp.

Pre-Dawn hybrids

When hybrids were first discovered as a class that could dish out almost as much damage as a warrior, and have more survivability then a mage, there was a mass reroll of characters. Pre-Dawn hybrids and warriors had little to separate themselves, as there was only a slight difference in armor, and mana regeneration was not affected by armor. Hybrids in these times were considered over-powered, and make no mistake they absolutely were. A class that could do almost all the damage of a warrior and have no mana penalties created undying characters and one man armies.

Dawn hybrids

With the release of armor training and mana regeneration penalties, hybrids were turned into a much less overpowered class. No longer able to dish out, or take as much damage as a warrior it became nearly impossible for a hybrid to take a warrior head on. However this opened up tons of different builds, and tweaks to that a hybrid can use to make a character. Hybrids also never lost their legendary survivability it just became more difficult to be effective in a group, making hybrids largely considered a vet class.

2.0 The builds

When it comes to playing a hybrid its important to know what you want to play. There are two main builds for the race you choose, depending on what you want to use as your choice of weapons is how you stat up your character.

The health build

Warning: the Tungsteel build is only to START using TU swords; to use it to their full effectiveness you need a Str of 82 which is a very ineffective hybrid build.

The health build is a good start for new players, and players rerolling from warriors. Ex-warriors will find comfort in the relatively same health, and new players will enjoy the extra hits they can take. With the mana builds above, you will be able to effectively cast 4-5 greater heals, or 2 thunderlashes. The extra health is nice, but don’t think you will be 1v1ing warriors all day, because you will still be getting hit for nearly twice what they do.

Notice: More strength was put into Steel and Tungsteel because the lack of Con on the speed build.

The speed build is much more difficult to use effectively. The lack of health is very noticeable, and leads many people to their deaths if they do not know their character’s weakness. However once you learn your health a veela hybrid is easily more powerful. What the veela hybrid lacks in damage he makes up for in speed, and extra mana. Full stam veela hybrids can easily stickyback and kill targets, then run away if they have to.

3.0 The universal skill template.

This build is generally considered a very effective hybrid build, but there are ways to tweak it, and change it as you see fit.

Any left over points can go into survival skills such as swimming or endurance both are not required, but can be useful.


4.0 The equipment

When playing a hybrid you are not playing a “paladin” you are playing a light armor fighter. A useful hybrid that is seen in pvp does not use anything above a 9 weight set. I won’t go into specific material details used in the armor; this part of the guide assumes you have crafters that can make you a set if asked (I.E guild crafters). If you have questions on useful materials for these armor types, send me a pm.

6 weight sets

My personal favorite hybrid set, is the 6 weight set. It is the lightest set possible for a hybrid that offers the best mana regeneration, but the least protection. This armor is perfect if you plan to be on the move, and know you will need the extra mana and stamina. These sets usually do not have boots included so expect damage in the 40s to the lower body. Remember to always be on your toes if you are fighting warriors (pole arms especially) and to never underestimate the damage they can cause.

7 weight sets

Usually 6 weight sets with boots included, 7 weight sets offer better protection to the lower body. There is a slightly noticeable difference to mana regen then the 6 weight set, but none with stamina. 7 weight sets are usually over looked due to the fact that the mana regen loss is not worth the few points in damage mitigation they receive.

8 weight sets

Without a doubt the most commonly used hybrid set on the server. 8 weight sets offer all around better mitigation then a 6 weight set, but at the cost of a noticeable loss in mana regen. If you are looking to take more hits, and plan to be less supportive to your group with heals then I would easily go with this armor set.

Other sets made are considered niche, or not common. Stay away from anything that goes over 10 max weight with your sword equipped.

5.0 Great Swords vs Poleswords

Poleswords on hybrids are uncommon enough to be called a niche group. The reason why poleswords are so under used is because of the high str requirement it takes to swing one. To use a steel polesword you need a strength level in the 80’s, and tungsteel even higher. If you were to want to use steel poleswords you would have to compensate by having little mana. What many people do is a 70 strength, 55 int build and only use cronite poles, which obviously for newer players is not an option. Because of this reason I have always considered poleswords a warrior weapon, and swords a hybrid weapon.

6.0 Stating up

The best way i have found to stat up a hybrid is by having damage assessment, and punching a house. When you punch the house your Int, and Str will rise quickly. When your Str, and int are stated up, take an armor set to the nearest pig spawn, and get the pigs to attack you. This will raise dex, and con then as soon as you know it, you're done!

Hybrid PvP explained.

Hybrid pvp is easily the most complicated, and difficult to do in the game. When I say difficult I mean because it is very hard for someone starting out to do any amount of damage. However a master hybrid can be nearly unkillable, and knows how to be as effective in dealing damage, and supporting their teammates as he can.

A warrior first.

For a hybrid to be successful he has to be as good a warrior as the warrior he’s fighting. The majority of people who role hybrids, were warriors first (myself included) not mages. These people have a huge advantage over ex-mages as they understand how aiming, blocking, and lag works. Being a hybrid you will be doing 70% fighting, and 30% casting so keep that in mind, try dueling as much as possible until you get the hang of things.

Unequipping/Reequiping and hotbar delay.

As a hybrid you will be switching between your weapon, and unarmed quite a bit. The best way to do this is by having your weapon on your hotbar with a key you’re comfortable with. While doing this you may run into something called “hotbar delay” where you will press your key, and your weapon won’t equip. To solve this, draw your hands by pressing “X”, while your hands are out press your weapon key. Your weapon will equip with a 100% success rate, but will also make you start walking. Simply tap sprint, and you will be back to normal speed again. Do this to both reequip, and unequip your weapon.

Mana conserving.

Being a hybrid you have VERY little mana to toy around with, during a fight treat this mana like gold. Only greater heal when you are less then 3/4 hp try and find other ways to heal, (I.E bandages, lesser heals, pots). Thunderlashes should only be used when a target is LESS THEN half, never start off a fight with a thunderlash unless you are doing group thunderlashes with guildies, or friends. Corrupts should also only be used on people who are low health, NEVER CORRUPT FULL HP PLAYERS, the majority would have purify pots, and 1/10 mana would have gone to waste.

-The double thunderlash

A very dangerous mistake is for a hybrid to blow all of his mana doing the dreaded double TL. Never do these in group pvp situations unless the battle is already won, and you are chasing people down. This move is also very useful in ganks, when you are trying to kill one person.

-Corrupt spam

Another dangerous mana waster that some hybrids used to practice ,and some still do. A long time ago when purify pots were not in game this was useful. The problem with doing this now is that it’s easy to blow all your mana on corrupts that are just potted away. Remember to only use corrupts when a target is half, or lower.

1v1s explained.

Hybrid 1v1s boil a lot down to patience if you don’t get to excited, or blood thirsty you will do fine.

1v1 vs. warrior

Fighting a warrior on a hybrid can be very difficult. To beat the warrior with pure melee you would need to land 2x, sometimes 3x the hits he does. Luckily you don’t have to use pure melee (unless you agree to an ego duel, which I don’t recommend on a hybrid). Always use melee to start off the fight, if things don’t go your way remember you are a legendary survivor, kite until you are full health, and try again. When you get your target to around half HP that is an ideal time to peel off, and charge a thunderlash. If it lands the target will begin to run, you can try charging a corrupt, or switch back to melee. Remember the hardest thing to do in this game is finish somebody off 1 on 1. Just remember to kite, and heal if you take to much damage, and to keep trying to bring him down with melee. A warrior can be an over aggressive meat grinder, which is why they usually stamout in which case you will win.

1v1 vs. hybrid

Fighting a hybrid is all about mana conserving, and hit trading. Again never start this fight off with magic, if your opponent does, know that you are at a HUGE advantage. If the person you’re fighting starts off with a TL simply bandage + minor pot it, and charge him melee first. If your opponent starts off with melee, then know that it’s a hit trade until you are behind. NEVER start off a hybrid 1 on 1 with a block, swing first until you get him to pull out and heal. Remember to thunderlash/corrupt when the target is half, or lower.

-Why you don’t start off with a block

When you are dueling a hybrid you are usually using even gear. Unfortunately because of prediction, blocking is chance based in this game so only do it when you are behind. Remember that you are always behind when dueling a warrior because of the extra damage they can do.

1v1 vs. mage

Unless you are a veela hybrid fighting a mage 1 on 1 is impossible. A mage will not die unless he messes up, as in stams out, runs into a tree, gets stuck, etc. The best way to fight a mage is to out heal his thunderlashes, and pot his corrupts. Remember that it is nearly impossible for a mage to kill you (cannot deal nearly enough damage). If you are patient you can wait for the slip up, or you can walk away till he peels off.

1v1 vs. mounted archer

Although it may seem daunting at first, fighting an MA is not that difficult when they are alone. There are two types of MAs, the ones with balls who ride up close to you so they can pile some arrows into your back. Then there are the ones that keep a nice safe distance between you and them. The first one is the type you can kill, simply wait till they are up close using any cover you can, then swing at them, and try for a dice roll (knocks them off their horse). The second type can not be killed, but they are easier to escape, try your best to use cover, and run into the hill to escape.

Fighting more then 1 odds.

When you are fighting more then one person its important to remember what your class is, a survivor. Never be afraid of 3 to 1 odds, know that you have the power to leave at anytime. What separates us from mages though, because mages are just as good at surviving? We can kill people :). While a mage lacks the mana to finish targets off, we have swords that do all the damage for us. This is where we become opportunistic kiters, while you’re being chased poke holes in the group fighting you look for their weakness. Maybe the mage is to slow to heal, or the warrior has terrible aim, or the mounted archer just won’t get in close enough to help. Exploit their weakness as best as you can, and if you cant win remember that you can always get away. In these situations its important to know if you can thunderlash, or not. If you notice the group is not hitting you a lot, and you can spare a thunderlash go for it. Otherwise save the mana for heals just in case you need them. Remember if you stam out you're dead, so try putting your weapon away at 1/4 stam.

while having 17.9% Damage Bonus and 205HP (or more if your keeping it near the border to Overweight)



Strong Points

Good for Melee Fights using Heavy Heapons (his Overhead Strike is just awesome)

Good for Archery with High Damage Sniper Bows (Low HP Mages are Food if you got some Aiming)

Can Stand In the Front Line and Keep Enemys on Distance
Can Shoot from behind Cover thanks to his Size


Weak Points

You got a Big Hitbox
You need to be a Good PvPler since Running Away is not an Option
You should be careful in Bakti and other Towns as theres some spots on which you get Stuck pretty Easily due to the Big Hitbox

Gonna start testing but an XR guy was hitting me for 50s weak spot time after time other day.

I wrote it assuming you understand how casting works in this game though :/


i mean what skills you need to cast heal on self.
You need 60 ecumenical spells

Gonna start testing but an XR guy was hitting me for 50s weak spot time after time other day.

You'll get around the 175 range on hitpoints and have plenty of mana.

Yeah if you honestly want to go daggers, then you can do find with around 40-50 str. Just put the extra points into Int.

Dagger hybrids fuckin rule btw. You can counter weakspot people for around 60s and 70s and instantly put them out of the fight. Great for stickybacking due to low stam draining weapon. Also on a plus side, people tend to underestimate you until you get a counter WS for 60 and send em runnin.



And daggers and spears are no easier to block than swords if you are a halfway decent blocker.
